Asahi's spouse gets a new job, and the young couple move into the house next door to his childhood home, where the parents still live. with the break-up from the city, and in her new role as a homemaker, Asahi loses her previous points of reference. She suddenly finds herself in a world characterized by isolation, hallucinatory heat, fleeting encounters with strange neighbors, all accompanied by the constant invading sound of the cicadas' screeching. One day when she is on her way to the convenience store, she sees a large black animal, follows it and falls into a hole that seems to have been made just for her. From that point in the story, she is led further and further away from the person she used to be…

The hole is a fantastic tale, a psychological horror that makes reality flicker for its reader. In its style, it evokes memories of David Lynch's work and Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

The novel was written by Japanese author Hiroko Oyamada and translated by Danish Mette Holm. The book has received Japan's most prestigious literary award, the Akutagawa Prize.

What is Japandi?

Japanese interiors are as popular as ever - and for good reason. The Japanese style has many features in common with the Scandinavian style.

Japandi is used for the style where elements from Japanese and Scandinavian design are combined. Here, the focus is on simplicity and good craftsmanship. The use of light wood, natural materials, calm colors and design is where the two styles especially meet and unite.

For us personally, the fusion between the Japanese and the Scandinavian consists in combining the things that we love most about the two worlds: good craftsmanship, minimalism, colors and calm.
