Step-by-step guide to pour over coffee

How to make pour over coffee with the Hario V60

Pour over coffee is a brewing method that brings out the nuances of the coffee and gives a clean and full-bodied taste. Here's a guide on how to make the perfect cup of pour over coffee with the Hario V60.

What you need:

Step-by-step guide

1. Prepare the equipment
Place the Hario V60 funnel on your pitcher or cup and insert a paper filter into the funnel. Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any papery taste and to preheat the funnel. Pour out the water.

2. Measure and grind the coffee
Weigh out approx. 10 g of coffee to 120 ml of water (for 1 cup) and grind the coffee. If you want to brew more, you can multiply from there. Use a good coffee grinder for a uniform grind - we used this hand-operated coffee grinder from Hario.

3. Heat the water
Use a gooseneck kettle for better control over the pour. The water should be between 90-96°C. If you don't have a thermometer, you can let the water sit for about 30 seconds after boiling.

4. Blooming (pre-wetting)
Pour about 10% of the water you need over the coffee in a circular motion so that all the coffee is saturated. Let the coffee steep for 30-45 seconds.

5. The main brew
Pour the rest of the water over the coffee slowly in a circular motion, starting from the center and working outwards. Keep an even pour for controlled extraction. The entire brew should take approximately 2.5-3 minutes in 2-3 batches.

6. Enjoy your coffee
Once all the water has run through, remove the V60 funnel. You can gently swirl or stir the coffee in the jug or cup for a consistent taste. Taste and enjoy your freshly brewed coffee.

Enjoy!
