Round and delicious hojicha latte
What is hojicha?
Hojicha is a unique type of Japanese green tea originating from Kyoto. The tea is distinguished by being roasted, giving it a characteristic nutty and slightly caramelized flavor with notes of cocoa and coffee. Hojicha powder is made by pulverizing roasted tea leaves and is perfect for a wide range of recipes, from baked goods and ice cream to the popular Hojicha latte.
Due to the special roasting process, Hojicha has a deep, toasty aroma and a low caffeine content, making it an ideal drink to enjoy in the evening. Hojicha latte is made in the same way as a matcha latte, combining the powder with water and then adding hot milk for a delicious and creamy drink.
Ingredients
- 2 small spoons of Hojicha powder. Use this matcha spoon for measuring
- 2 dl of your favorite milk or plant-based drink
- 0.5-1 dl. water - should be around 80 degrees
- Optional syrup or honey
Equipment to make the perfect matcha latte:
Procedure
- Put the hojicha powder in a matcha bowl with a little water. The water should ideally be around 80 degrees, as too hot water will remove many of the good properties of the tea, while too cold water will make it difficult to dissolve the powder completely.
- Gradually pour in all the water and whisk together. whisk to make the mass completely wrong without lumps
- Add syrup or honey if desired (about 1 teaspoon)
- Pour your Hojicha mixture into a cup, or leave it in the bowl and drink directly from it (this is what is done in Japan)
- Heat and froth the milk and pour it into the cup or bowl.
