#79 Self-Portrait as a Child (original)

Sale price 1.300 kr

Original artwork created by Japanese artist Kozaburo Yoshikawa, who found great inspiration in European artists such as Gauguin, Warhol, Picasso, and Basquiat.

When Kozaburo passed away in 1998, the entire collection was sent from Japan to Denmark. The artworks were stored there for many years – until the family decided that some of them should be allowed to live on in new homes.

At Seramikku, we have been honored to mediate a selection of these original works. Each motif exists in only one copy – a small piece of art history from Nara in Japan, which can now find a place on a wall in a new home.

THE STORY BEHIND

KOZABURO Yoshikawa

NARA, JAPAN

The story begins in Nara, Japan. As an artist, he drew inspiration from the world far away. He studied the works of European artists such as Picasso, Basquiat, Warhol, and Gauguin, and traces of the first two are particularly evident in his characteristic line work and colorful universe.

ONE SPECIAL WISH

Throughout his life, he created illustrations and artworks with a rare energy and personality. When Kozaburo passed away in 1998, his mother had a special wish. She hoped that one day his art could live on in Europe, which had inspired him so deeply throughout his life.

A new chapter

Therefore, his works were carefully packed and sent from Nara to Denmark. And there are many. So many that over the years the family has agreed that some of the works deserve to find new homes, where they can be hung up, admired, and lived with in everyday life.

ART HISTORY

Each artwork is therefore more than an illustration. It is a small piece of a life story. A connection between Japan and Europe. And a story that continues with the next person who gives the artwork a place on the wall.

HONORABLE TASK

We at Seramikku have been given the opportunity to help with this task. We do so with great respect for the history, for the family, and for the artistic legacy that has traveled all the way from Japan to Denmark.

About Seramikku

A PIECE OF JAPAN BROUGHT TO DENMARK

At Seramikku, you will find hand-picked Japanese functional art in unique and limited quantities.

The brand was born out of our interest in bringing together Japanese and Scandinavian styles and bringing a piece of Japan into Danish homes. We want to make the Japandi style accessible and inspiring for you by offering unique Japanese items that fit into the Scandinavian interior and food culture.

We noticed that others also found the combination of Danish and Japanese completely unique, and that is where the idea to start Seramikku came from.
