A treasure chest of colors, harmonies, and inspiring combinations.

The iconic color combination work Haishoku sokan (1933–35) is, with its 420 color combinations of 171 color shades, selected and composed by the Japanese color pioneer Wada Sanzo (1883–1967), a cornucopia of inspiration.

In this first Danish edition, all colors are equipped with their own Danish, Japanese, and English names, as well as LAB and CMYK codes. In addition, there is a new foreword, linguistic, cultural, and historical notes on the color names, as well as Wada's own reflections on the harmony and essence of the colors.

Where the well-known publication A Dictionary of Color Combinations shows a selection of Wada Sanzo's work, Atlas of Color Combinations opens up the entire work for the first time. Here you can explore a wealth of color harmonies, contrasts, and surprising combinations that inspire new creative ideas.

The book is translated and commented on by Steffen Kloster Poulsen, who is an independent translator, publisher, and the man behind the micro-publisher Kokon. Maria Kirk Mikkelsen, who is a textile designer and employed at the Kolding School of Design, has written the foreword and named the Danish color names.

Sold exclusively at Seramikku from November 2 - before the official release date.

Please note that the images show the original reference work as well as the process of creating the book.
The final book is in production and will arrive in week 44.

What is Japandi?

Japanese interiors are as popular as ever - and for good reason. The Japanese style has many features in common with the Scandinavian style.

Japandi is used for the style where elements from Japanese and Scandinavian design are combined. Here, the focus is on simplicity and good craftsmanship. The use of light wood, natural materials, calm colors and design is where the two styles especially meet and unite.

For us personally, the fusion between the Japanese and the Scandinavian consists in combining the things that we love most about the two worlds: good craftsmanship, minimalism, colors and calm.
