Tokyo Tattoo 1970 by acclaimed photographer Martha Cooper is a book about the traditional art of tattooing. It offers a unique insight into the traditional Japanese tattoo world in Tokyo in 1970 and is a collection of photographs that capture the Japanese art of Irezumi (often associated with the Yakuza, but also widely recognized for its cultural significance and artistic value).

Martha Cooper arrived in Tokyo in 1969. She quickly became fascinated by the local tattoo art and began documenting the work of traditional Japanese tattoo artist Horibun I , who used classic Japanese techniques – tattoos done by hand with bundles of needles of various sizes attached to sticks that he dipped in colored ink. His motifs were derived from traditional Japanese legends.

What is Japandi?

Japanese interiors are as popular as ever - and for good reason. The Japanese style has many features in common with the Scandinavian style.

Japandi is used for the style where elements from Japanese and Scandinavian design are combined. Here, the focus is on simplicity and good craftsmanship. The use of light wood, natural materials, calm colors and design is where the two styles especially meet and unite.

For us personally, the fusion between the Japanese and the Scandinavian consists in combining the things that we love most about the two worlds: good craftsmanship, minimalism, colors and calm.
