"I once thought that life was like a book, where you open the first page, and then the next page and the next page follow by themselves until you reach the last one. But life is not like the story in a book. Even though the words line up and even though the pages are numbered, there is no logical order. And even though there is an ending, it is not the end.

Something remains…

Like the trees left behind on a plot where the dilapidated house has been torn down...

Like the water in a vase where the withered flowers have been removed...

Something remained.”

Ueno station, the park exit is a short story written by author Yu Miri and translated by Danish Mette Holm. The book has been awarded the National Book Award for Translated Fiction in 2020.

Yu Miri is a writer, essayist and playwright. She was born and raised in Japan to Korean parents, writes in Japanese, but is a South Korean citizen.

The book has 180 pages.

What is Japandi?

Japanese interiors are as popular as ever - and for good reason. The Japanese style has many features in common with the Scandinavian style.

Japandi is used for the style where elements from Japanese and Scandinavian design are combined. Here, the focus is on simplicity and good craftsmanship. The use of light wood, natural materials, calm colors and design is where the two styles especially meet and unite.

For us personally, the fusion between the Japanese and the Scandinavian consists in combining the things that we love most about the two worlds: good craftsmanship, minimalism, colors and calm.
